How Flocci Tabs works — from install to a readable tab strip in one gesture

Six steps, but only the first two need you. The rest happens while you work.

How does Flocci Tabs work?

Direct answer

Flocci Tabs runs as a Manifest V3 service worker that listens to Chrome's window and tab events. When a new window is created by a drag, it creates a tab group around the tab, titles it, and picks an unused colour. AI grouping and naming call Flocci's own AI service with tab titles and domains only.

  1. Install Flocci Tabs from the Chrome Web Store. Automatic grouping starts working immediately — no account, no configuration, no onboarding.
  2. Drag any tab out of the strip into its own window. The extension catches Chrome's window-creation event and wraps the tab in a titled, coloured group before you release the mouse.
  3. Keep working. Tabs opened beside a group join it automatically, and at every third tab the group is re-named by AI from up to ten of its titles.
  4. For the tabs already open, click AI Group All. Up to 50 ungrouped tabs go out as titles and domains and come back as named topic clusters; leftovers are swept into domain groups.
  5. Press Ctrl/⌘ + Shift + M to merge every window into one, or Ctrl/⌘ + Shift + U to flatten everything back to a plain strip.
  6. Save a snapshot to store the window's group names, colours, tab order and URLs on your Flocci account, and restore it on any machine you sign into.

How it works — questions

Straight answers, no marketing detours.
Do I have to configure anything?
No. Every default is live on install: fourteen domain colour hints, five rule templates, drag-out grouping, adjacent grouping and three keyboard shortcuts. The options page exists for people who want to rewrite them, not because you must.
Does it work offline?
The local half does — drag-out grouping, adjacent grouping, colour cycling, rule templates, bulk actions and shortcuts all run in the service worker with no network. AI grouping, AI naming and snapshots need a connection to api.tabs.flocci.in.
Will it interfere with groups I made myself?
No. Groups you create and name by hand are respected. Flocci Tabs creates and names groups it made; it does not overwrite a label you typed.

One gesture, then it is automatic

Drag a tab out. That is the entire tutorial.
